What was going on inside Abraham when he decided that his life was more important than his duty to his wife. I wonder if Abraham and Hosea meet someday and talk about how it felt. Abraham purposely pushing his wife into the arms of another man to save his life and Hosea watching his wife choose another’s arms.
How did Sara think of her husband when he ask he to sleep with another man so he (Abraham) could stay alive. And is the death because your wife is beautiful scenario real or just imagined in Abraham’s head.
Issues of courage, bravery, manhood, leadership all ooze to the surface and undoubtedly effected Sara and Abraham’s relationship for the rest of their lives.
Abraham came to the point where he loved Life more than he loved God. His duty to God was to love his wife (even as Christ loved the church?) sacrificially yet when push came to shove Abraham would rather protect his life than trust God to be his protector.
Amazing that a guy who could leave everything because God told him to, couldn’t trust God along the journey. What is it about the leaving that was so easy and yet so hard when approaching Egypt.
By faith Abraham yada yada yada, yet her soon after that faith is found so repulsive in his behavior as a husband. God you are amazing, working with people who regularly desert you!
How do I love life more than you? I am not confronted like Abraham with the big stuff but how about the little stuff. Where do I choose to love Roy more than the Almighty Father, Creator of heaven and earth, sacrificor of all that is good on my behalf.
Confront me with my decisions. Etch in my mind the choice between life and you!
