Sept. 24th Journaling Genesis 45

“Joseph could not control himself…and he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard it.”
Joseph’s change of mind (repentance) was more than a mental thing.  His cry was fron the heart.  Those who repent deepest cry loudest!

I used to think that the more mature I became as a follower of Christ the less emotional I would become.  I have repented of that thought.  I now see in the Bible a clear picture of the connection between the head and the heart.

This connection means I cry more the longer I follow and understand Christ.  Not long ago someone told me of a person who left Shoal Creek because Sunday mornings made them cry too much, probably the sign of a hard heart.  I know there are people who cry  easily but I don’t think that is what is happening to Joseph.

He has a moment in which he has seen himself.  He is trying to extract revenge on his brother and in the midst of this self protective hard hearted move, he sees himself for who he is and repentance began, the tears follow and he cries from his heart.  You might even characterize this as a wail.

Father, thank you for releasing me from the lies of my past, exposing the false personal theology that I built believing that emotion immature.  I love to cry and when it reaches deep within, I feel the power of my mind and my heart synergize just as you made me to.  Thank you for the fresh and powerful life that allows the deep rivers within to surface.

Father, you know that mess this life is, thanks for the comfort of your absurd grace.  Just when I think I need to be booted from your family you convince me once again that there is nothing I can do to make you love me less!  I will spend an eternity asking why and marveling at the irrationality of that answer.
