From Mayim (the Luttig’s hunting farm)

March 3rd, 2009 · No Comments

Our days in Bukwini were very rich and taxing. All of our senses were under seige. The smell of poverty is oppressive, the sight of poverty is overwhelming, living 24/7 amongst the poorest of the poor just tears you up.

Our second day of home visits was rained out so we left Bhukwini about 10 am and made our way to Port St. John and the Spotted Grunter. There Vanessa the consumate Innkeeper used here gift of hospitality to revive our souls and bodies.

Sickness is gone from the team! No more vomiting and diarrhea (sp!). At the moment everyone out hunting except for Shea, Janie and I. Shea just got up and Janie is out for a walk so I am enjoying the solitude of Africa!

After we unpacke at the Grunter we went up to Michael Hale’s. The crew took the walk down the hill to the water while Michael and I caught up on our lives. He is doing well and beginning a new era of ministry in his life.

We left Michael and headed by to the Grunter for dinner. I proceeded to collapse into a high fever and skipped dinner with the team, Michael and his daughters. My fever broke in about 3 hours and I manage to get up thinking it was morning when it was 10 pm. Fortunately Derek and David Stanley came to check on me and keep me from dressing and making a total fool of myself.

Next morning Michael showed up with his boat and took the crew for a 3 hour Indian Ocean excursion, dolphins and all. After a quick turn around we met the JAM folks at Magwa Fall, a beautiful 300 foot falls with a ravine that is breath taking. We ate KFC in sight of the falls.

Now we back track from Lusikisiki to Port St. Johns and stop for me to see Lucia, one of Michael’s daughters. I have a dream for her to attend JAM for a year. I wanted to cast a little vision with her and assure her that we would help her find the funding.

Now back in the van at 4 pm and on to Mayim where we arrived a 11pm. Ugh!

But now all is well. Resting, letting our souls and bodies catch up to one another.
