Why the 7 Journeys, Why now?

January 6th, 2010 · 1 Comment

As Shoal Creek enters its 15th year of existence, the question in my mind and on my heart is what’s next?

A metaphor has crossed my path, the difference between an elephant and a rabbit.  Put two elephants in a room and two years later out comes 3 elephants.  Put two rabbits in a room and two years later thousands of rabbits will emerge.  Obviously if size is important be an elephant.  Size is really not the dream that Jesus gave me.  It was to reach those far from God in Clay County and the surrounding areas.  Conservative estimates put that number some where north of 200,000 people!

As we have grown big it is now time to focus on reproduction or to become rabbits.  I believe that one of the keys to that process is the development of resources (7 Journey Study Guides) that allow us to move from a church plant to a church planting movement.

These resources distill the essence of the spiritual life and provide a pathway to a vital connection with God.  They also open the door to everyone at Shoal Creek turning around and taking someone through the study.  Or to bring the metaphor back, it allows us to multiply like rabbits.

So for the next 8 weeks I am asking you to do 2 things, participate and share.  Participate in one of the many groups doing the 7 Journeys studies and share your experience.  We need your question, observations, confusions, misunderstandings, and whatever.

It will take the collective wisdom of us all to get these resources to a place that will allow us to multiply like rabbits.  Jesus’ ask us to take his message to the every living creature.  That 200,000 mentioned earlier are within an hours drive of our campus.  They are in relationships with you at work, in your neighborhood, and your families.  You are the secret to reaching them!

As we approach the rabbit stage it will allow us to move from a church plant to a church planting movement.

More to come!
